Michael S. Gazzaniga founded and presides over the Cognitive Neuroscience Institute and is currently the David T. McGalughlin Distinguished Professor at Dartmouth College. He has written and edited many books in the field of Cognitive Neuroscience, his research focussing on split-brain patients.

In 1992, with Michael S. Gazzaniga and others, he founded the Cognitive Neuroscience Society. Gazzaniga founded and hosted for 20 years the Summer Institute in Cognitive Neuroscience, and served as editor in chief of the leading journal in the field, as well as the three-volume series The Cognitive Neurosciences published by MIT Press. Michael Gazzaniga has edited a magisterial volume, "The Cognitive Neurosciences III," on the relationship between the human brain and cognition. This monumental 1300 page volume covers a large territory.
